Young Learners – Introduction to the Exams

Cambridge English: Young Learners is a series of fun and engaging English language tests, created for children between 7 and 12 years. They introduce pupils to everyday written and spoken English, and are an excellent way to gain confidence and improve their English.

The exams are not exams in the strict sense of the term – all candidates receive a certificate and failure is thus not possible.

There are three activity-based tests – Starter (pre A1), Movers (A1) and Flyers (A2).

Young Learners – Exam Update 2018

We will start this workshop by providing some background information on the revision process before describing the small number of changes made to the question papers and the rationale for these changes. We regularly review all of our exams to make sure they are up to date with the latest research in language learning and teaching.

We will then discuss the new writing assessment scales, developed for the new writing tasks for Movers and Flyers; the updated speaking assessment scales; and the changes made to results reporting.

    Teaching Vocabulary and Speaking

Using the Young Learners exams as a teaching resource you will be presented with teaching tips and classroom activities that support Young Learners to learn vocabulary and develop their speaking skills not only for the Young Learners exam, but just as importantly for their continuing language-learning journey.

    Speaker Bio

The workshop will be led by Dina Blanco-Ioannou MEd BA (Hons) ELT, a professional English Language Teacher and Teacher Educator and Trainer with over 20 years’ experience.
