  • Objectives

This stakeholder seminar is organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the Governments of the 8 Adriatic and Ionian countries in the framework of the consultations and supporting activities for the drafting of an Action Plan for the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).

It aims to bring together maritime and marine Adriatic and Ionian actors from public authorities, businesses, research bodies and civil society to debate on concrete actions to be pursued in the area of the blue economy.

The contents of the 8 panels in agenda have been built on the Maritime Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Seas basin adopted by the European Commission on 30 November 2012 and are inspired by the four pillars proposed by the discussion paper on the EUSAIR circulated on 09 August 2013 (see above).

    Proposed EUSAIR’s pillars

Panel 1A: Boosting blue research, innovation and skills

Panel2A: Adapting to a resource efficient seafood production and consumption

    1. Driving innovative maritime and marine growth

Panel 1B: Promoting sustainable and competitive seaborn transport

Panel 2B: Improving maritime traffic monitoring in the Adriatic-Ionian Seas basin

    2. Connecting the region

Panel 3A: Spatial planning and coastal zone management

    Roundtable 4A: Marine litter

    3. Preserving, protecting and improving the quality of the environment

    Roundtable 3B: Regional tourism branding

Roundtable 4B: New business models for the cruise sector

    4. Increasing regional attractiveness

The conclusions of the 8 panels will be made available in this website and will be further elaborated in a study to be published early 2014. They will complement the stakeholder consultations carry out by the EUSAIR working groups leaded by the Adriatic-Ionian Governments and will form part of the public contribution to the Action Plan to be adopted by the European Commission in 2014.
