    HKS Dinner Series

China - U.S. Showdown - What's in it for Europe

    with Philippe Le Corre

It is with great pleasure that we welcome back Philippe Le Corre, a China specialist and former President of the Harvard Club of France.  Philippe is a Senior Fellow at both the Harvard Kennedy School and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

It has been quite a year for international relations since Donald Trump met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. While Trump has withdrawn from the Transpacific Partnership (TPP) and defended "America first" even in the Asia-Pacific region, Xi has become one of the strongest proponents of trade and globalization. China is also determined to take "center stage" on all fronts, including the highly-publicized issue of the Korean peninsula.

In this complex context, Europe, and France in particular, are trying to seeking to engage with both Trump's U.S. and a rising China. This herculean task will help to define the new international order, where multipolarity has become the key-word.
