    Telekom Malaysia R&D are hosting this event focussing on Big Data as applied to the telecommunications sector. This will be the second time Telekom Malaysia has hosted such an event (the previous event was held in October 2012), continuing the discussion on all aspects of big data technologies and techniques applied to various facets of telecommunications. This is a public event, open to all.

  • Who should attend

    This event is open to the public and anyone can attend. Despite the focus on the the telecommunications sector, the content will also be relevant to anyone with an interest in the Big Data big picture. The previous time this event was held, attendees included:

    • Junior and Senior Engineers, Researchers, Consultants, and Technical Managers working for telcos.
    • Senior profesionals working for companies (e.g. ISVs, platform providers, service providers, etc) that serve telcos.
    • Senior profesionals working in other (non-telecomms) data-intensive verticals.

    Speaker bios and talk synopses:

    Kevin McGinley - Oracle Analytics Solutions & Offering Lead, Accenture, “Actionable Insight Through Analytics”

    Kevin McGinley is a lead within Accenture's Oracle Analytics practice and is responsible for solutions and offerings on the Oracle Analytics platform. He has been designing and building data warehousing and business intelligence solutions since the mid 1990's and is a recognized expert in the Oracle Analytics space through presentations, publications, and engagement with the user group community. Kevin also writes a blog and co-hosts the YouTube/iTunes video podcast: Real Time BI with Kevin & Stewart.

    Synopsis: The term "Big Data" seems to be everywhere these days, even in airline magazines. But what is it really and why should anyone care? This presentation will explore Accenture's perspective on this and discuss the ultimate outcome: actionable insight through analytics. Various use cases will be explored, with some specifically in the field of telecommunications.

    Raju Chellam - Regional Head of Big Data & Cloud at Dell South Asia, “Why the future is A, B, C (Analytics, Big Data and Cloud)”

    Raju Chellam is Honorary President of the Business Continuity Group at the Singapore Computer Society; Honorary Secretary of the Cloud Chapter at the Singapore IT Federation, Member of the Singapore Government’s National Cloud Advisory Panel & Regional Head of Big Data & Cloud at Dell South Asia. He has 30 years of senior level experience in the ICT industry in Asia & was previously Business IT Editor with The Business Times, Singapore, for a decade.

    Synopsis: While cloud computing is becoming more common, extracting intelligence from huge blocks of data is becoming more complex.  That’s why the notion of big data is gaining ground. Big data seeks to bridge the gap between structured data in databases and unstructured data from social & other media. This convergence will open a plethora of possibilities for telcos and their customers in research, healthcare and governments. Find out just how ABC will change how you view D (data).

    Sunil Chavan - Director of Software & Cloud Hitachi Data System Asia Pacific, "Social Innovation - Big Data Solution of Tomorrow"

    Sunil Chavan is working with Hitachi Data System as Director, Software Group & Cloud solutions, Asia Pacific. Sunil brings more than 16 years of experience in the IT industry working in different Enterprise Sales & Marketing capacities and developing business in New Economy Growth Markets across Asia. Prior to joining Hitachi, Sunil worked with Oracle to develop the SMB business in ASEAN region. Sunil has worked extensively in FSI, Telco and Airline vertical in the region.  He has good experience on Enterprise Content Management strategy implementation.
    Synopsis: Usable information forms as it rises through complex systems – human and machine. Data and content become information. Hitachi’s strategy integrates layers of technologies and solutions with industry-focused applications to help organization find, evolve, use and cultivate value from its information. This session will share about Hitachi’s plan to create Social Innovation cloud and Big Data solutions of tomorrow.

    Venkat Narayanan - Head of Strategic Initiatives, CTO Office, Mahindra Satyam, “Big Data Analytics Maturity Model”

    Venkat Narayanan is Head of Strategic Initiatives, CTO’s Office, at Mahindra Satyam. He integrates organization’s initiatives in Strategic technologies viz. Cloud, SaaS, Green & Sustenance. He also heads the Enterprise Architecture practice. Prior to this role, he was responsible for BI&CPM business of Satyam in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Venkat has about 28 years of business management and consulting background, which includes stints with Wipro in India and a regional airline in the Middle East. His extensive international experience has taken him to consulting assignments in the USA, Middle East, South Africa and Asia Pacific. Venkat is a regular speaker in seminars and industry events in the region. He is an adjunct Faculty at Singapore Management Management University (SMU) teaching Masters Programme in Analytics.

    Synopsis: Big data and analytics have become top agenda of many organizations, but along with the opportunity to derive the value it has also become important to drive the optimization of the investment in resources and technology. The key focus about this talk is to bring out the ways in which organizations can go up the value chain in utilizing their big data investments and increasing the maturity of these initiatives. The speaker will bring out real life case studies where big data investments have provided benefits to organizations.
