    Anabel Facemire, MD, FACC

    Cardiologist

    Anabel Facemire MD, FACC, is board-certified in cardiology and nuclear cardiology with specialty training in echocardiography and nuclear medicine. She also counts heart failure, atrial fibrillation, preventive cardiology and women’s heart health among her clinical interests. In her most recent role at Walla Walla General Hospital she was an active partner in her patients’ journey to better health. “Through early detection, treatment and rehabilitation, I want to empower my patients to achieve abundant and long lasting health.” Her treatment approach focuses on the latest evidence-based medicine, bolstered by teaching the benefits of nutrition, exercise, stress management and spiritual support. Dr. Facemire completed her fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Cardiology Division in New York City. She believes that the Health Ministry is the right hand of the Gospel and the “wedge” to bring physical and spiritual healing to a world in great need of whole-person healing. Her husband, Fred, and children, Melody and Ethan, have personally benefitted from adopting a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. They enjoy exploring nature and camping as a family.

     

    Barna Magyarosi, ThD

    Secretary, Inter-European Division of Seventh-day Adventists

    Barna Magyarosi is currently serving as the executive secretary of the Inter-European Division. After graduating with a BA in Theology from the Romanian Theological Institute, he served as a pastor and department director in the South Transylvania Conference. Then he became a lecturer at the Romanian Theological Institute for seven years, teaching Old Testament related subject such as Pentateuch, Wisdom Literature, Old Testament Theology, etc. He also served for five years as the president of the same institution. In the meantime, he earned a Masters in Religion degree from Andrews University and a Doctorate in Theology from the University of Bucharest. In 2010, he accepted the call to be the director of the Education and Family Ministries departments of the Inter-European Division. Married to Noémi-Laura, he is the father of an energetic teenager girl, Blanka. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, swimming, table-tennis, and reading.

     

    Carlos Fayard, Ph.D

    Associate Professor, Chair, Psychiatry and Religion Program, Loma Linda

    Dr. Carlos Fayard is also the Director of the Clinical Psychology Internship and Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Training and Community Mental Health, Department of Psychiatry, Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Dr. Fayard is leading a Behavioral Health Integration team at Riverside University Health System Diabetes, Heart Failure and COPD clinics, where spiritually integrated psychotherapy is provided to patients with chronic medical conditions. He is an Associate Director for Mental Health Affairs, Health Ministries Department, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Dr. Fayard was appointed to a panel of experts to provide advice on the “Plan for Mental Health Action 2015-2020 by the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization. He is the co-editor of A Christian Worldview and Mental Health: an Adventist Perspective, Vida Abundante: La Psicologia Positiva desde la Cosmovision Biblica and the forthcoming A Christian Perspective for the Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy: A Neuro-Psycho-Spiritual Approach. He likes writing, and also travelling, reading and spending time with family and friends.

     

    Chidi Ngwaba, MB BS

    Director, Health Ministries Department, South England Conference of Seventh-day Adventists

    Trained in Surgery, General Practice & Lifestyle Medicine at Cambridge, UCL & Johns Hopkins USA, Dr Chidi works to Reverse, Improve or Prevent many chronic illnesses including Heart disease, Cancer, Arthritis & Diabetes, with his programme “Life Colours”. He was a Founding Board member of the European Society of Lifestyle Medicine (now Preventative Medicine). Founder & Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic on Harley St, London. He is the Health Ministries Director for the South England Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists. Has over 25yrs experience of National & International Health & Motivational Talks. Regularly features on British TV as a Health & Wellness expert. In 2016 He received a national Leadership award for his work on reversing Disease. He works closely with the British & Nigerian Governments as a medical advisor. Dr Chidi's Passion & Pleasure is to reveal God's compassion to the world in a modern, relevant way through The Lord's Health message. In his free time, he runs 5km 5 x per week and likes to keep fit.

     

    Daniel Binus, MD, MPH

    Clinical director of Beautiful Minds Medical

    In March, 2011, Dr. Binus and his wife Melissa moved to Auburn and founded Beautiful Minds Medical. There he provides outpatient psychiatry and oversees the Intensive Outpatient Program. He’s also on the medical staff at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, and a clinical instructor for Loma Linda University. Dr. Binus completed his medical training and psychiatry residency at Loma Linda University, where he became fascinated by the beauty of the mind. Dr. Binus spent many hours studying the emotional, physical, spiritual, and biological factors that influence mental health. This study made him passionate about treating the cause of mental illness, and not just masking the symptoms. His goal is to understand and address the emotional, physical, and spiritual factors that influence each patient’s well being. Dr. Binus completed a master’s degree in Public Health Education and enjoys conducting lectures and workshops on depression and other mental health topics. He also developed a mental health curriculum for the HIV/AIDS orphans of sub-Saharan Africa, which is currently being implemented in the country of Lesotho. Dr. Binus believes that proper mental-health education can greatly improve the lives of people and communities.

     

    David DeRose, MD, MPH

    Physician

    David DeRose, MD, MPH is a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine who also holds a Master in Public Health degree with an emphasis in Health Promotion and Health Education. He currently serves as President of CompassHealth Consulting, Inc. (www.compasshealth.net), where he helps develop media resources and services that enable individuals and groups to better harness lifestyle and other natural therapies. As a published medical researcher, syndicated radio show host heard on over 140 stations, popular lecturer, and practicing physician, Dr. DeRose has been helping people address disease processes naturally for some three decades. DeRose’s most recent book is Thirty Days to Natural Blood Pressure Control. Dr. DeRose is married to his wife of 29 years, Sonja Brandt DeRose, M.D. They have three children who range in age from 20 to 25.

     

    Don Mackintosh, BSN, MDiv

    Director of Newstart Globals Health Program

    Has a rich history in health care and ministry. He is the Director of NEWSTART Globals HEALTH program, and pastor of the Weimar Campus church. Additionally, he works as a chaplain for the Nedley Depression Recovery Program. He is married to Luminitsa. They have four growing children: Elizabeth, Katherine, Donald, and James.

     

     

     

    Fred G. Hardinge, DrPH, RD, FADA

    Associated director, Health Ministries Department, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists

    Dr. Hardinge is Associate Health Director of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. As such he spends a lot of his time sharing, consulting, speaking and teaching on health and its relationship to spiritual life around the globe. He has a keen interest in all areas of health, recognizing that robust and vigorous health comes only through balanced living. He is a Registered Dietitian and has been recognized as a lifetime Fellow by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He was co-founder of Bibleinfo.com in 1995 and currently is the founder and Director of PositiveChoices.com. He enjoys a variety of healthful pursuits, top among them are hiking, climbing and cross-country skiing. Carpentry and writing bring great satisfaction and relaxation. He has a wonderful wife, April, who is an accomplished pianist and nurse. The joy of their lives are two grown children and spouses, and five awesome grandchildren.

     

     

    Hana Kahleova, M.D., Ph.D

    Director of clinical research at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, DC.

    Dr. Kahleova is a medical doctor and a researcher. With her specialty in internal medicine and endocrinology and a PhD in nutrition and diabetes, she has performed several research studies on beneficial effects of plant-based diets in type 2 diabetes. and wrote a book Vegetarian diet in the treatment of diabetes (Maxdorf 2013, in Czech). Her research proved that eating a large breakfast and lunch is more beneficial than eating six smaller meals a day for patients with type 2 diabetes. After her postdoctoral research fellowship at Loma Linda University, CA, where she analyzed data from more than 50,000 participants of the AHS-2 study on meal frequency and timing, and showed that for body weight regulation, eating a large breakfast, and no snacking are the most important regimen modifications. She is currently Director of Clinical Research at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, DC. Dr. Kahleova enjoys studying how metabolic function works in regards to diet composition, meal timing, and frequency. She is a member of the Czech Diabetes Association and the Diabetes and the Nutrition Study Group (DNSG) of the European Association for the study of Diabetes (EASD).

     

    Heidi Schulz, PhD

    Research associate at the Human Genetics Institute at the University of Regensburg (Germany)

    Dr. Heidi Schulz is passionate about translating the newest scientific discoveries into easy-to-understand language to empower not only healthcare professionals but also everyone who is interested in making a positive impact on health. The basis for her insights were gained during her studies of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and have been complemented with the experience gained during her doctorate in Human Genetics at the University of Wuerzburg (Germany) as well as research, clinical and teaching experience at Adventist River Plate University (Argentina) and her current position. Dr. Schulz is married to pianist Lucio Maier and mother of a daughter (13 yrs) and a son (8 yrs). If she has some free time left after coordinating the children’s ministries at her church, you will find her reading, listening to classical music, or busy with some creative project.

     

    Jason M. Aragon, MPH, B.S.

    Dean School of Public Heath, Director for Healthy University and Campus Wellness Montemorelos University

    Jason Aragon earned an undergraduate degree in exercise science and a graduate degree in preventive care (MPH). He had directed campus-wide health initiatives for the past 15 years. During this time he has had the privilege implementing fitness and wellness programs for students and faculty, and has also shared his services in the lifestyle center at the university hospital. Recently, he has worked with the government in the state of Nuevo Leon in a nationwide program directed at reducing obesity and increasing physical activity in the general population. He is passionate about teaching people the intricacies of nutrition and physical activity through health education and health behavior change. He has also served as a secretary and member of the Western Society of Kinesiology & Wellness. He is now a member of the RMUPS, which is the national network for health-promoting universities in the country of Mexico.

     

     

    Lily Tryon, DNP, FNP-BC

    Associate Professor, Southern Adventist University

    Dr. Lilly Tryon is a family nurse practitioner who is passionate about helping people live the healthiest lives possible. As a nursing professor, Dr. Tryon teaches graduate nursing courses in health promotion, nutrition, exercise, and health coaching. She encourages students to go beyond prescribing and coach patients to create personalized lifestyle strategies for preventing, managing, and reversing chronic disease. Dr. Tryon also practices part-time as a Nurse Practitioner at Volunteers in Medicine in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she researches lifestyle medicine and coaching approaches for addressing diabetes in underserved populations. She has a Doctorate in Nursing Practice with an emphasis in lifestyle medicine, and holds national certifications in lifestyle medicine, health coaching, plant-based nutrition, and exercise physiology. She balances work and ministry by curling up with a good book and a cup of tea, creating healthy recipes, and spending time with family.

     

    Mario Brito, MDiv

    President, Inter-European Division of Seventh-day Adventists

    Mario Brito started his ministry in Portugal where he worked for 24 years as church pastor, field director and union president. In 2005, he was called to move to Bern as EUD Stewardship and Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Departments Director. In 2010, he became the EUD Ministerial Association Secretary and Chaplaincy Director. Three years ago, during the last GC Session in San Antonio, he was nominated as President of the Inter-European Division. He is happily married to Maria José, her faithful companion in ministry, for 37 years and they have an adult daughter.  On his free time, he enjoys hiking and reading good books.

     

     

    Neil Nedley, M.D.

    President of Weimar Institute

    Dr. Nedley is founder and medical director of the Nedley Depression and Anxiety Recovery Programs, and “Optimize Your Brain” program designed to enhance emotional intelligence. Dr. Nedley is an award winning practicing physician who has presented and published numerous scientific studies in the medical literature. He is well known as a public speaker and teacher throughout the world. He is author of Proof Positive, Depression—the Way Out, The Lost Art of Thinking, and Optimize Your Brain. He hosts the annual Emotional Intelligence Summit with global speakers and participants. He currently is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine, at Loma Linda University and serves on the constituency of Loma Linda University and the Corporate Board of Andrews University. Dr. Nedley and his wife Erica have four sons. He enjoys hiking in nature with his family, piloting his own aircraft, snow skiing, and listening to sacred and classical music. Nothing is as enjoyable to Dr. Nedley, however, as helping people from the depths of depression and anxiety to the pinnacle of success and fulfillment.

     

    Paolo Benini, MDiv

    Personal Ministries and Sabbath School Department, Inter-European Division of Seventh-day Adventists

    Paolo Benini holds the position of the Personal Ministries and Sabbath School, Advent Mission Office at the General Conference Inter-European Division.  For 31 years he worked in the Italian Union as pastor, director of various departments , field president and Union President. For 10 years he was a guest teacher in the biblical doctrines at the Villa Aurora University in Florence, Italy. He has also published many theological articles, written books and created Bible studies for different levels. He has given many public seminars and evangelistic campaigns in different parts of the World. During his ministry in Sicily he started the missionary work in Malta and organized health activities with the Maltese Government. He was the president of the Life and Health Association of Italian Adventist Church. He loves cycling in the open air and fixing old bicycles and whenever possible he goes mountain climbing, he makes his own special homemade “Ezekiel” bread. He is married to Angela Lazzara and has two sons Samuele and Gianluca, and one daughter Annalisa. He is also the proud grandfather of precious Mila.

     

    Peter Landless, MBBCh, MMed, MFGP (SA), FACC, FASNC

    Director, Health Ministries Department, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists

    Peter Landless is a medical doctor who trained in South Africa, the country of his birth. During his first term of mission service, he completed a specialty in Family Medicine. In this same period, he was ordained as a minister of the gospel. He subsequently specialized in internal medicine and then cardiology. Since 2001 he has served the global Seventh-day Adventist Church as an associate director of the department of Health Ministries. From October 2013, he was elected to serve as the Director of the Health Ministries department. He is also the executive director of the International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (ICPA), a non-governmental organization with a UN (United Nations) Charter. His passion is the practice, promotion and sharing of the Blended Ministry, the ministry to the whole person - body, mind and spirit, by the whole team – every ministry and member of the Church. As recreation, he loves being in nature, birdwatching and also visiting old cathedrals, and botanical gardens.

     

    Raniero Facchini, MD

    General Director of the Italian "Vita e Salute" Foundation

    Raniero Facchini is a surgeon, who graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Florence in 2005. Specialized in Digestive System Surgery and Digestive Endoscopy at Sapienza University of Rome in 2012, he also holds a Master in Clinical Nutrition and a Master in Integrated Oncology Therapies. Over the years he has been trained at the following Universities: Malaga, Valencia, London, Havana (Cuba), Paris. He has been the medical Chief of the "New Start" Italian project since 2005. He just finished to write a book about the prevention and treatment of cancer that will be published soon. In his free time he likes being in contact with nature by doing water sports and taking care of an orchard with ancient races of fruits; furthermore he grows organic vegetables in Tuscany.

     

    Sara Salazar Winter, M Sc.

    Director of “Deutscher Verein für Gesundheitspflege e.V.“ (German Association for Healthcare

    This association, short DVG, functions as the Health Ministries Department of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church in Germany. Before devoting her work fulltime to DVG, she led a Lifestyle Center in the South American country of Colombia where she witnessed the healing powers of a plant-based diet and natural remedies among the guests. There she also founded the Lifestyle Educator Course in 2006. She started her education in the area of health as Nurse Assistant. Today she holds a Bachelor degree in Holistic Nutrition, an International Master degree in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as a Master of Science in Medical Nutrition from the University of Hohenheim in Germany. She participated in research on “differences in attention to types of food cues” employing eye-tracking technology, and recently co-authored a publication in the scientific journal “Food Quality and Preference”. Sara lives near Stuttgart in Germany with her husband and two children.

     

    Valerie Dufour, MPH, M Eco, RD

    Director, Health Ministries Department, Inter-European Division of Seventh-day Adventists

    Valérie Dufour is a former economist, an accredited dietician and holds a Master in Public Health from Andrews University, Michigan, USA. For over 10 years, she has a special interest for the widespread problem of overweight & obesity in adulthood or childhood and enjoys helping patients to regain healthy body weights. This led her also to do some research on “Dietary patterns and growth in elementary school children” or on the use of the “Transtheoretical Model in childhood overweight” besides creating and developing the Children’s Health Expo in 2007. She has been a member of the General Conference Nutrition Council since 2011. Valérie is passionate to share the Adventist Health message, its depth of science, its adaptation for our time, the great need for it in today’s world and how it testifies of a loving and all-knowing God. Her favorite holidays are by, on and in warm seas and oceans.

     

    Viriato Ferreira, MBChB

    President of VitaSalus

    Served as a missionary doctor in Africa. Now practicing medicine in Portugal where he co-founded and is the president of the Portuguese Association of Preventive Medicine – VitaSalus, an organization that operates a lifestyle center and two outpatient medical clinics. Directs lifestyle programs for weight management. Health Ministries director at the EUD from 2006 to 2014. Associate director of Health Ministries at the General Conference until July 2015, and thereafter in an honorary capacity. Married to Marianne who is also a medical doctor. The couple has 3 children – Daniel, Clarisse and Muundja. Loves the outdoors and nature photography.

     

     

    Zeno Charles Marcel, MD

    Associate Director, Health Ministries Department, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

    Dr.  Zeno L. Charles-Marcel holds adjunct professorships at Montemorelos, Loma Linda and Andrews universities and was adjunct Research Professor at the University of Colorado until earlier this year.  As a medical educator and former medical school dean he has influenced the professional lives of many hundreds of physicians in practice around the world.  His ongoing academic interest is the study of NCDs [hypertension, Coronary Artery Disease, obesity, dyslipidemias, cancer, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes] and the determinants of health. He was the Medical Director of the Lifestyle Center of America in Oklahoma and in conjunction with Loma Linda University, co-founded of the first academic fellowship program in Lifestyle Medicine in the United States with Dr. David DeRose.  He, his wife Anita, and their three sons have ministered together on every continent except Australia. His pastimes are reading, creative tinkering, inventions, and home projects with his family.
