  • Course Information

    You know CPR and Heimlich Manuever. You call 911. But can you administer First Aid in a mental health crisis?


    This 8-hour course teaches particpants how to help someone who is showing signs of a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. 

    The 8-hour training course covers the following topics:

    • Signs and symptoms of mental health problems and crisis situations
    • A basic model to provide Mental Health First Aid
    • Information about how to help in crisis and how to prevent cirisis from arising
    • Encouraging a person to identify options for help

    Practical skills are taught using a model that is easy to remember and apply in real-life settings

    Certification: Upon successful completion of the eight hour course, you will be given an exam to complete and a certificate will be mailed to you shortly afterwards.


    ***IMPORTANT*** Please note that you have to take the FULL 8 hour course to be eligible for certification. Any partcipation less than 8 hours will nullify the opportunity to receive certification.

    Time:  9:00a - 5:00p (Includes one hour lunch and other breaks)

    Materials needed: Paper, pencil, and enthusiam! All other materials will be provided

    Cost:  FREE!

    (Those who want CEU credit will be assessed a $10 fee paid to UTC Contiuning Education)


    Bottled water will be provided, however lunch is on your own.

    There will be plenty of parking in Lot 39 outside of the UTC School of Nursing. Once you enter the Metro Building, take elevator on the left up to the 2nd floor and go to room 226. Plenty of signage will be hung in around building to guide you.
