Today´s berry crops are constantly available 12 months a year, in supermarket shelves and supply chain is key to have this gigantic challenge, putting healthy and high-quality fruits in the shelves.
However, quality starts in the field, where fruits are picked and post-harvest management and quality that arrives to the supply chain, depends on the work that growers and technicians do every day to keep and improve quality of our beloved berries fruits.
With this in mind, Green Smile and Hortitool Consulting, introduce for the fall of 2021, the MBC Berries Post-Harvest Masterclass on-line. Manuel madrid, Fruitprofit, from spain and Daniela Segantini, Rubus R&D Specialist, from Italy will be the speakers during this masterclass.
With the help of these 2 international experts, in October and November 2021, we want to bring to the berry community worldwide, a deep approach and analysis about the key factors, that needs to keep the post-harvest characteristics of berries which arrive at the supermarket shelves.

SPEAKERS
Manuel Madrid
Dr. Madrid has an extensive experience in tropical crops (banana, pineapple, mango, and papaya), subtropical fruits (citrus, avocado , pomegranate), table grape and berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries).
He has conducted development projects in North and South Europe, North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia), South America (Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru), Central America (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama) USA, México, Russia and the Philippines. He has 30 years´ experience in R&D and business development in fresh fruit. Since 2005 he has worked in the berries industry as head of research for Driscolls Europe and Head of Research and Quality for San Lucar Group. Currently he collaborates with key berry producers in Peru.
Dr. Madrid has a MSc in Horticulture from University of California, a MSc Agricultural Engineering from Polytechnic University, a doctorate in Business Administration from Bradford University, and an MBA from IMD Switzerland.
Daniela Segantini
Daniela Segantini is an agronomist and got her Master’s and Ph.D. degree in Horticulture at the University of São Paulo State (UNESP, Brazil). She worked as Visiting Researcher at the University of Arkansas, United States, where she collaborated in projects focused on Fruit Breeding and Food Science. She has experience with blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Mainly areas of working include Small Fruit Breeding, Post-harvest, Fruit Quality and Sensory Analysis.
