In transdisciplinary research projects, communication and media research combines theory with knowledge resulting from professional life. Cooperation in such projects is not always satisfactory. Academics complain of excessive demands when it comes to the usefulness and application of scientific theory, while practitioners criticise aloofness and distance from everyday practice, along with communications problems, as regards the theory.
The annual SACM Conference 2013 addresses the conflict between theory and practice. Problems and opportunities need to be bundled and put forward for discussion, so that self-reflection of the discipline can take place.
Academics from all communications and media studies sub-disciplines, SACM specialist groups, and also those involved in non-university commissioned and applied research, as well as science-related practitioners and clients, have prepared interesting presentations.
